Activation of lysosomal enzymes in rabies-infected tissue culture cells without accompanying cytopathic effect.
Lactic dehydrogenase and beta-glucuronidase were assayed in tissue culture fluids and cellular lysates, respectively, from BHK-21/13S and Iota cell cultures infected with rabies virus. Activation of lysosomal enzymes was shown from the day 4 of infection on, without any indication of cytopathic effect.
متن کاملACTIVATION OF LYSOSOMAL ENZYMES IN VIRUS-INFECTED CELLS AND ITS POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP TO CYTOPATHIC EFFECTS Bx
One type of cell-virus interaction leads to more or less severe cytopathic effects, which may take various forms (1). However, such cytopathic effects are not always observed when virus multiplication occurs, e.g. with influenza A in human embryo lung cultures (2). Cases are also known in which severe cytopathic effects take place but there is no multiplication of virus, e.g. vaccinia in macrop...
متن کاملActivation of Lysosomal Enzymes in Virus-infected Cells and Its Possible Relationship to Cytopathic Effects
Activities of the enzymes beta-glucuronidase, acid phosphatase, acid DNAase, acid RNAase, and acid protease have been measured in the lysosomal and supernatant fractions of mouse liver cells and monkey kidney cells before and after infection with mouse hepatitis virus and vaccinia virus, respectively. In the infected cells there was easily measurable release of lysosomal enzymes into the supern...
متن کاملLysosomal Enzymes in Cells Infected with Cytopathic and Non-cytopathic Viruses
In chick embryo cells infected with fowl plague virus, an avian strain of influenza A which produces cytopathic effects, lysosomal enzymes were released from the particulate to the supernatant fraction of homogenates within 6 hours of infection. This change occurred in the presence of high concentrations of parafluorophenylalanine, suggesting that the changes were due to redistribution of prefo...
متن کاملPropagation of Rabies Virus in Tissue Culture
Rabies virus has been propagated in serum-Tyrode solution containing either embryo mouse brain or embryo chick brain. The culture virus reached a titre of 3 x 10(-5) cc. after 4 days' incubation at 37 degrees C., and survived at least 2 months at 5 degrees C. in the liquid or dry state.
